Brown Publishing Company, founded in 1979 by Hardy and Cheryl Brown, is the parent company to a number of divisions servicing the African-American market. The Black Voice News, a weekly publication founded in 1972, is the cornerstone of the Brown Publishing Company and serves Southern California's growing and expansive Inland Empire region. In 1988 the publishers founded the Black Voice Foundation, Inc. a non-profit public benefit corporation created to educate and train individuals in print media. Under the moniker, The Black Voice Media & Research Center, the organization offers education and training in print media and technology. BVPR & media services offer targeted public relations, media placement, and advertising services. And Black Voice Footsteps to Freedom Study Tours provide educators and other interested individuals the opportunity to retrace the steps of the Underground Railroad from America 's southern states to providences throughout Canada .

In 2004 the second generation of Brown family members opened BPC MediaWorks as a full service media firm. BPC MediaWorks specializes in servicing the ethnic community media market through newspaper and magazine management, media placement and creation, community partnership development, advertising and public relations, and other media services.
