As we approach each Christmas season, the thing we hear the most is about Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus, Frosty the Snowman, and even The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.
And sometimes, we as adults, get caught up in all of that hustle and bustle and snowflakes falling and frosty the snowman coming to life and other types of imagery that brings about good feelings.
It appears that the most difficult thing as Christians is to talk about the conception and birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the reason we celebrate Christmas in the first place.
Part of that reason is most of us really dont read or believe that this immaculate conception actually took place. So therefore, we stay away from ever trying to explain it. In reading Matthew 1: 18-24 it talks about the conception and birth of Jesus. All of us as Christians should be familiar with this scriptrure.
It states that an angel appeared to Joseph, the son of David, in order to make him a true believer. Verse 21 states: She will give birth to a son (and this is before ultrasound). The angel also advised him to give him the name Jesus because he was to save his people from their sins.
In Luke 1:30 an Angel appeared to Mary and said, Do not be afraid, Mary you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son and you are to give him the name Jesus.
He will be great and will be called the son of the most high. Which confirms that God spoke with Mary and Joseph at separate times with the same message that we are to believe today. This is the foundation for our celebration and the reason for the season.
This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph, her husband, was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel -- which means God with us.
When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him to do and took Mary home as his wife. But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.
