The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Riverside Branch will celebrate great accomplishments of various community leaders at the 61st Annual Freedom Fund Awards Gala. This event will take place Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011 at 5:30 p.m. at the Riverside Convention Center in downtown Riverside.
The keynote speaker is Chief Sergio Diaz of the Riverside Police Department.
It is said that those who take bold chances don’t think failure is the opposite of success, they believe complacency is. This saying holds true to those being honored.
The theme; “NAACP: Fabric of our Future-Bold Dreams, Big Victories, New Challenges.” One of the 16 great leaders being honored is our very own Paulette Brown-Hinds, Ph.D., managing partner of BPC Media Works and co-publisher of Black Voice News who will receive the Media/Journalism Award.

Bertha Hale (Solutions 2 Etc.) - Education Award
Lt. Halford Webb (Riverside Police Department) - Law & Justice Award
Paulette Brown-Hinds, Ph.D. (BPC Media Works) - Media & Journalism Award
Phyllis Clark (Healthy Heritage Movement Inc.) - Medicine & Health Award
Master Petty Officer Joe Reed (United States Navy) - Military Award
Jim Tucker (United States Navy) – Military Award
Ennette Morton, Ph.D. (Riverside Metropolitan Museum) – Political/Government Award
Yolanda Moses, Ph.D. (University of California, Riverside) - Political/Government Award
Phaila Louder, Pastor (New Jerusalem Christian Center) – Religion Robin Woods (Riverside Unified School District) - Roy Wilkins Award
Jack Clarke, Attorney at Law (Best Best & Krieger) – Omar Stratton Award
The mission of the NAACP is to advocate for political, education, social and economic quality of rights for all citizens, as well as eradicate racial injustice. The NAACP-Riverside Branch has been fulfilling this mission serving the community for over 70 years. The organization has been recognizing significant contributions at this gala affair since the mid-1950s when the first Freedom Fund Dinner was held.
