Allen was the first player to rush for 10,000 yards and catch passes for 5,000 more, was a six-time Pro Bowl running back with the Los Angeles Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs. Named Rookie of the Year in 1982, he was also Super Bowl XVIII MVP, league MVP in 1985, and the NFL Comeback Player of the Year in 1993. Marcus is an exemplary role model for kids today showing them that if you work hard you can go down in the history books too! said Eric Dickerson. As part of the gala event there will also be a silent auction display full of authentic NFL autographed memorabilia and much more.
The goal of this two-day function is to raise funds to provide educational grants and scholarships to deserving and talented students who have the aptitude and ability to attend some of the nations best preparatory academies and schools but cannot afford the cost of tuition. Our public school system has been suffering for a long time.
Overworked teachers, slashed budgets and overpopulated classrooms are only part of the problem – add to that inner city environments and troubled youth and it seems almost a miracle if any of these kids are college bound, comments Eric Dickerson.
The Eric Dickerson Foundation has recognized this much ignored problem area, and is raising funds to award scholarships to kids locked into the failing public school system. Many kids do not receive the attention and guidance needed to give them an opportunity to excel beyond their own environments and limited expectations. The Eric Dickerson Foundation wants to reward students who will be the leaders of our future. Special thanks to our participating corporate sponsors: AT&T; Magic Johnson Enterprises; Miller Brewing Co.; the St. Louis Rams and Miskeen Originals.
