A host of Hollywood celebrities will help welcome Black college football back to Los Angeles after a 10-year absence.  Hip-hop high priestess and actor MC Lyte, rap star Snoop Dogg, television judge Mablean Ephriam, veteran actor Vanessa Bell Calloway and rap legend Whodini will participate in the Silver Dollar Classic Weekend II being held Friday and Saturday, September 29 – 30, at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Sports Arena, 3911 S. Figueroa Street.  It is the first time in 10 years that a Black college football game has been played in the Los Angeles area.

The action-packed weekend will feature Morehouse College and Alcorn State University, two of the nation's most prestigious Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), squaring off on the football field and in a classic Battle of the Bands – two areas where competition between HBCUs are traditionally the fiercest.  The weekend of excitement will be filled with heart-pounding drama as the schools, alums, students and fans battle for bragging rites to declare their school the best.

Additionally, the Silver Dollar Classic Weekend will include a Greek Step Show, Career and College Expo, and Festival featuring more than 100 vendors.

The action kicks off Friday, Sept. 29, with the "Battle of the Bands" featuring a rivalry between local area high school ‘drumlines,' a college sorority and fraternity Step Show competition and the big showdown between the 110-member Morehouse "House of Funk" and the 200-member Alcorn State "Sounds of Dyn-O-mite" bands.  There will be guest performances by Whodini and MC Lyte who will rock the house with fan favorites.  Doors open at 6 p.m.  Radio station 93.5 KDAY-FM will serve as host for the evening.

On Saturday, Sept. 30, the gates to the Coliseum open at 10 a.m.  The Pre-game activities begin at 11 a.m. with a Snoop Youth Football League (SYFL) exhibition game, with Snoop Dogg as head coach for his league's Pomona Steelers versus the league's undefeated Compton Vikings coached by 26-year veteran Keith Williams.

Then, on Saturday, at 2:15 p.m., the main event, hosted by radio stations 100.3 The Beat and KJLH 102.3, begins.  The mighty Morehouse College Maroon Tigers will rumble with the awesome Alcorn State University Braves.  MC Lyte will provide entertainment at half-time.

Former "Divorce Court" Judge Mablean Ephriam and Vanessa Bell Calloway will serve as hosts for private Silver Dollar Classic VIP events.

Tickets are available at www.ticketmaster.com, the Sports Arena box office, Inglewood Tickets, Mid-City Records & Tapes and the African Marketplace in the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Mall.  Band event tickets start at $25.  Game tickets start at $35.  VIP tickets are available.

Silver Dollar Classic organizers are especially interested in youth attendance at the event.  Designed to support HBCU enrollment, the Classic exposes HBCU culture to youth of all ethnicities, particularly those in the western part of the U.S. where there are no HBCU schools.  Hence, there is an emphasis on various aspects of HBCU college life, i.e., football rivalries, Battle of the Bands, Greek Step Shows and career guidance.

To encourage youth attendance, the Silver Dollar Classic is offering a limited number of complimentary tickets to nonprofit youth organizations and educational institutions serving under privileged and/or disadvantaged young people.   Fax requests on official letterhead to (323) 857-7210 or email lacorporate@sdc2006.com.  Include tax exempt ID numbers.
