Last Friday CSUSB President Tomas Morales sent the following announcement to the campus community after meeting with our family at my parents’ home:

Colleagues,

Earlier this morning, I enjoyed an incredible meeting that I wanted to share with each of you.

Today I met with extended members of the Hardy Brown family to let them know that Mr. Hardy Brown has been chosen by the CSU Board of Trustees to earn an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters. The ceremony will take place during the College of Arts & Letters commencement on Saturday, Jun 14 at 11:45 a.m. in Coussoulis Arena.

Mr. Brown has long been one of the Inland Empire’s iconic leaders. He and his wife Cheryl co-founded Brown Publishing Company to produce a weekly community newspaper, Black Voice News, which focuses on local news in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The Browns, married for 50 years, have been recognized as the only living publishers to be included in the 175th anniversary of the Black Press of America.

We will be announcing this to the media and other constituent groups on Monday, but I wanted to provide our campus community some advanced notice. It is a great day for the Brown family and CSUSB.

Best,
Tomás D. Morales
President
California State University, San Bernardino

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Hardy Brown, our Publisher Emeritus and my dad on this major honor.
