Former Rep. Joe Baca is at it again. He just can’t stay away from the political spotlight. First he lost his bid for re-election to Congress to Gloria Negrete McLeod in 2012 for the newly redrawn 35th District.
Then he came in fifth in a crowd of seven in the recent primary for the 31st Congressional District seat. Instead of fading gracefully into the background, he’s acting like a Kardashian, working harder to stay in front of the public than wanting to work an actual job.
“Old Furless Joe” of Rialto as I referred to him in a past Rant, has targeted Mayor Acquanetta Warren of the City of Fontana, to attempt to unseat in the upcoming election. I’ve heard it is part of a Grand Baca Plan to unseat some of our best serving women and replace them with the Baca brigade. We all know Baca has a “woman” problem, despite his pathetic attempt to try to convince voters otherwise with his Mother’s Day “women love JB newspaper ad.“ First there was the incident in 2007 when he was accused of calling colleague Rep. Loretta Sanchez a whore, and as recent as February of this year he referred to Rep. Gloria Negrete McLeod as a “bimbo” in an interview with The Hill. He later apologized for his “poor choice of words.”
Acquanetta Warren is the first woman and first African-American elected as the mayor of Fontana. She has been exactly the type of leader the city needs – part cheerleader/part ambassador. Her focus on promoting the city as “Open for Business” has led to Fontana being ranked 4th in the state in 5-year annual growth of retail sales. Her focus on public safety had the city named one of the Top 20 Safest Communities in the US in 2013. And her Healthy Fontana program earned the attention of the White House and is considered a model program for other cities to follow.
Mayor Warren is a tireless and effective advocate for the city she lives in and loves, but I guess that’s not enough for someone who, regardless of forced apologies or strategically worded ads, still clearly thinks of our women leaders as nothing more than “bimbos and hos.”
