FONTANA, CA — On Sunday, October 20, Miller Park will be the site of the 22nd Annual Inland Empire Walk & Roll to Cure ALS, a highly anticipated community event aimed at raising funds and awareness for ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Hosted by the ALS Network (formerly ALS Golden West), the event invites participants to take part in a one-mile, accessible route that brings together families, supporters, and those affected by ALS throughout California.

The event, which includes music, education, and family-friendly activities, has set a fundraising goal of $75,000. All proceeds will go toward the ALS Network’s mission to support care services, advance public policy, and fund vital research aimed at finding treatments and cures for ALS.

ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that impacts nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to the loss of muscle control. Over time, individuals with ALS lose the ability to move, speak, swallow, and eventually breathe, though their cognitive abilities often remain unaffected. Approximately 10% of ALS cases are hereditary, while the remaining 90% appear without a clear genetic link. Veterans are nearly twice as likely to be diagnosed with ALS compared to the general population. Currently, there is no cure, and treatment options remain limited.

The ALS Network serves individuals and families affected by the disease across California and Hawaii. Their mission is to partner with the ALS community to discover prevention strategies, promote effective treatments, and improve health outcomes. The funds raised from the Walk & Roll will support these initiatives, offering hope to those affected by ALS.
