Seeking Justice for Victims of Eaton Fire That Destroyed One of CA’s Most Historic Black Communities

The NAACP and law firm Singleton Schreiber have announced a partnership to advocate for justice on behalf of the victims of the Eaton Fire and the burning of the historic Black community of Altadena.

Former President Jimmy (James Earl) Carter Dead at the Age of 100

Former President Jimmy Carter, who served as the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981, passed away at his home in Plains, Georgia, on Sunday and will be honored with a state funeral and a national day of mourning on January 9.

President Joe Biden has announced plans to commute the sentences of 37 of the 40 inmates currently on federal death row.

President Joe Biden has commuted the sentences of 37 individuals on federal death row, and the NAACP has applauded the administration’s efforts to spare lives and set a precedent amidst rising extremist and anti-humanitarian rhetoric.

The new statewide campaign will tackle stigma and raise mental health literacy among youth in partnership with community-based organizations across California.

CDPH Launches “Take Space to Pause” New Campaign Aimed at Addressing Youth Behavioral Health

The California Department of Public Health’s Office of Health Equity has launched the Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative’s new campaign, Take Space to Pause, to address the youth mental health crisis and promote help-seeking actions among teens across the state.

AME Council of Bishops President Silvester Beaman joined President Joe Biden on his recent visit to the Republic of Angola. On September 26, 2023, President Biden announced the establishment of a 12-member President’s Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement in the U.S. and named Bishop Beaman as the Council Chair.

Bishop Silvester Scott Beaman of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Orlando, Florida joined President Joe Biden on his recent visit to the Republic of Angola, marking the first visit ever by a sitting U.S. president to the country, and the first visit of a U.S. president to sub-Saharan Africa since 2015.
