Part 3 The Kevin Epps Murder Trial

BVN Contributor by BVN Contributor January 16, 2026January 16, 2026

The Kevin Epps murder trial in San Francisco has revealed a troubling pattern of racial bias in the justice system, with an all-white jury, suppressed evidence, and a forensic narrative built on convenience rather than empirical certainty, leading to calls for a more equitable justice system.

On Oct. 24, 2016, filmmaker and journalist Kevin Epps shot and killed his sister-in-law’s ex-husband, Marcus Polk. Polk had entered the Epps home where the sister-in-law resided with the Epps family after having been asked to leave the day before. Polk was inebriated. He was again asked to leave. Moments later, the shooting occurred. Nine years later, in November 2025, Epps went on trial for murder.
