Trump-era Order Hinders California’s Wildfire Response Amid Peak Season

California’s Task Force Rattlesnake, a specialized wildfire fighting unit, is operating at 40% of its operational strength due to a federal deployment order by former President Trump, leaving a gap in CAL FIRE’s firefighting capabilities.

Riverside and San Bernardino Counties are once again the two most polluted counties in the nation with high levels of particulate matter and ozone pollution, according to the American Lung Association. San Bernardino County experienced 152 days — the equivalent of five months — of ozone days.

The Eaton fire (pictured) has spread over 14,100 acres and is at 27% containment. Over 23,700 acres of Palisades land has been scorched with wildfire, with just 11% containment. These fires are expected to be identified as two of the most destructive fires in the state’s history.
