Fontana USD Honors The O’Day Short Family With School Renaming

The Fontana Unified School District dedicated O’Day Short Elementary School, formerly Randall Pepper Elementary, to honor the memory of the O’Day Short family, who were killed in a 1945 arson, and to teach the full history of the land where the school stands.

60 years ago, on September 15, 1963, during the peak of the Civil Rights Movement, members of the Ku Klux Klan bombed the 16 Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL. Killing four little girls: Addie Mae Collins, Carol Denise McNair, Carole Robertson, and Cynthia Wesley.
