California State Audit into Eaton Fire Begins as Community Demands Accountability

The Altadena community gathered to mark the first anniversary of the Eaton Fire, which destroyed homes and caused the loss of 19 lives, and called for an investigation into the lack of response from the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The crowd holds up phone lights in a moment of silence for those who lost their lives in the Eaton Fire. Approximately 1,000 people gathered in the Grocery Outlet parking lot to show support, solidarity and remembrance at the First Anniversary Commemoration of the Eaton Fire on January 7, 2026 in Altadena, California.

Los Angeles County Sues Southern California Edison Over Eaton Fire Damages

Altadena’s Black Residents Bear Disproportionate Burden of Damage from Eaton Fire, UCLA Report Shows

The NAACP and Singleton Schreiber filed a lawsuit against Southern California Edison Company and Edison International, on behalf of the Mahone family, whose home was completely destroyed by the Eaton Fire. The lawsuit alleges that the fire started when Edison’s electrical equipment caused sparks to ignite dry vegetation in Eaton Canyon.
