After Issac Strayhorn was tragically murdered in Trenton, NC in 1942, his family responded to God’s call to action, with his son Leslie “Dewey” Strayhorn, Sr. becoming a successful farmer, community organizer, and politician, and his wife Betty Brown Strayhorn becoming an active member of the NAACP and St. Matthew AME Zion Church.
