Black Voice News reflects on the impactful stories of 2025, from federal attacks on social safety nets to wildfires and statewide warehousing regulations, while also highlighting the progress made on key local concerns and the joy and celebration found in the community.

Black Voice News teammates Alex Reed, project manager, Mapping Black California and Black Voice News photojournalist, Report for America and CatchLight Fellow, Aryana Noroozi, enjoy conversation during cocktail hour before the 2025 California Journalism Awards Gala 2025 on May 17, 2025, at the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City Hotel. Before the evening ended, Reed and Noroozi would each take home a first place award in their respective categories, two of three first place awards received that evening by Black Voice News.
